Set Aside (“Set Aside,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a personal budgeting and financial planning application that helps you plan your money, organize budgets, record transactions, create savings goals, and collaborate on shared plans.

Your financial information is personal. Set Aside is designed to collect only the information needed to provide its features, synchronize your data when you choose to sign in, and maintain the reliability of the app.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Set Aside collects, why we collect it, how it is used, the services involved in processing it, and the choices available to you.

1. Using Set Aside as a Guest

You can use Set Aside without creating an account.

When you use Guest Mode, the plans, budgets, transactions, savings goals, and other financial information you enter are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to Set Aside’s cloud services.

Guest Mode does not provide cloud synchronization or features that require an online account, such as sharing plans with other users.

Because Guest Mode data is stored locally, deleting the app or clearing its local data may permanently delete that information. We may not be able to recover Guest Mode data because it has not been stored on our servers.

2. Information We Collect When You Sign In

Creating an account is optional. If you choose to sign in, Set Aside uses account information necessary to authenticate you and provide cloud-based features.

Depending on the sign-in method you choose, this may include:

Set Aside supports authentication through services such as Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In.

We do not receive or store the password for your Apple or Google account.

If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Apple’s Hide My Email feature, Set Aside may receive the private relay email address provided by Apple instead of your personal email address.

3. Financial and App Data

When you are signed in, information you create in Set Aside may be stored in the cloud so that it can be synchronized across your devices and used with account-based features.

Depending on how you use Set Aside, this information may include:

Set Aside processes this information solely to provide the functionality you request, such as budgeting, planning, transaction tracking, savings goals, synchronization, and shared plans.

Set Aside does not connect directly to your bank accounts.

Set Aside does not collect your online banking credentials.

Set Aside does not process banking transactions or move money on your behalf.

4. Cloud Storage and Synchronization

Cloud storage and synchronization are available when you choose to sign in.

When you sign in, Set Aside relies on third-party cloud infrastructure and service providers to authenticate you, store your account and application data, and keep that data synchronized between your devices and our cloud services.

These service providers may process your account and application data as necessary to provide these services on our behalf.

The use of cloud synchronization means that information associated with a signed-in account may be processed and stored on infrastructure operated by our service providers.

Financial data created while using Guest Mode remains locally stored unless the app explicitly provides and you choose a feature that transfers that data to a signed-in account.

5. Shared Plans

Set Aside allows signed-in users to share certain plans with other people.

When you share a plan, users who have been granted access to that plan may be able to view or modify information within it depending on their assigned permissions.

Shared information may include financial information contained in the plan, such as budgets, transactions, amounts, savings information, and other content associated with that plan.

You should only share plans with people you trust.

Access to shared plans is managed according to the sharing and membership functionality available within Set Aside.

6. Crash and Error Diagnostics

We use a third-party diagnostic service to help identify crashes, errors, and technical problems and to maintain the reliability of Set Aside.

Diagnostic information sent to this service may include:

We configure this diagnostic service to disable its default collection of personally identifiable information.

We do not use session replay or screen-recording features, and we do not intentionally send your financial information to our diagnostic service.

We also take measures to redact potentially sensitive structured information from diagnostic events, including authentication information and common financial or personal data fields.

Although we take precautions to minimize diagnostic data, technical error information may contain unexpected information depending on the circumstances of an error.

Diagnostic information is used to diagnose technical problems, maintain Set Aside, and improve the reliability and performance of the app. It is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

7. How We Use Your Information

We use information processed through Set Aside only where necessary to operate and improve the service, including to:

8. Advertising, Tracking, and Sale of Data

Set Aside does not use information collected through the app to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising purposes.

9. Third-Party Service Providers

Set Aside relies on a limited number of trusted third-party service providers to operate certain features. These providers may process information on our behalf for purposes such as:

Third-party providers help authenticate your identity and manage your account when you choose to sign in to Set Aside.

Cloud Hosting and Storage

For signed-in users, account information and application data may be stored and processed by third-party cloud infrastructure providers that supply the hosting and backend services Set Aside depends on.

Data Synchronization

Third-party service providers may process signed-in users’ data to synchronize it between their devices and our cloud services.

Crash and Error Diagnostics

A third-party diagnostic service helps us identify and resolve crashes, errors, and technical problems, as described in Section 6 above.

Apple and Google

If you choose Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, the selected provider authenticates your identity and provides Set Aside with the account information authorized through that sign-in process.

These providers may process information on our behalf or as independent service providers according to their applicable terms and privacy policies.

We do not authorize these service providers to use your Set Aside financial data for their own advertising purposes.

10. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information processed through Set Aside.

These measures include limiting the information collected by diagnostic services, using established infrastructure providers, and using authentication and access controls for account-based data.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or stored by Set Aside or its service providers.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and the Apple or Google account you use to authenticate with Set Aside.

11. Data Retention

We retain account information and synchronized application data for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Set Aside and maintain your account.

When you delete your Set Aside account, your authentication account and associated cloud application data are deleted, subject to limited retention that may be necessary for security, legal, backup, fraud-prevention, or legitimate operational purposes.

Information processed by third-party service providers, including diagnostic information, may remain for a limited period according to their applicable retention and backup practices.

Guest Mode data remains on your device until you remove it, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app, subject to the behavior of your device’s operating system and backup services.

12. Account and Data Deletion

You can delete your Set Aside account from within the app.

Go to:

Settings → Account → Delete Account

Deleting your account removes your Set Aside authentication account and associated cloud application data.

Deletion is intended to be permanent. Once the relevant data has been deleted, we may not be able to recover your account, plans, transactions, savings goals, or other information.

Some information may remain temporarily in backups, security records, or service-provider systems until their normal retention periods expire.

Information associated with shared plans may require special handling depending on plan ownership, membership, and the rights of other participants.

13. Your Privacy Choices

You have several choices regarding how Set Aside handles your information.

Use Guest Mode. You may use Set Aside without creating an account. Your financial information remains locally stored and cloud synchronization and sharing features will not be available.

Choose what you enter. You control the financial and other information you enter into Set Aside.

Choose what you share. You control whether you participate in or share supported plans with other users.

Delete your account. Signed-in users can delete their account and associated cloud data from within Set Aside.

Stop using the service. You may uninstall Set Aside at any time.

You may also contact us regarding questions or requests concerning your personal information.

14. Sign in with Apple and Google

Set Aside may allow you to authenticate using Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.

Your authentication provider determines what information is made available to Set Aside according to your choices and the provider’s policies.

For example, Sign in with Apple may allow you to hide your personal email address by providing Set Aside with an Apple private relay email address.

Set Aside does not receive your Apple or Google password.

Your use of these authentication services is also subject to the privacy policies and terms of the respective provider.

15. International Data Processing

Set Aside’s service providers may operate infrastructure in countries or regions other than the country in which you live.

As a result, information associated with a signed-in account may be processed or stored outside your country of residence.

Where applicable, our service providers are responsible for implementing appropriate safeguards for international transfers in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.

16. Children’s Privacy

Set Aside is a general-purpose personal budgeting application and is not specifically directed toward children.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in circumstances where parental consent or another legal basis is required under applicable law.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to Set Aside in violation of applicable law, please contact us. We will investigate the request and take appropriate action where required.
